I joined Horncastle Primary as Deputy Headteacher in September 2018, when I relocated with my family from Colchester in Essex. I became ActingHead in Janury 2023.
I trained to be a teacher at Roehampton Institute in London, with subject specialisms of English and Maths. I qualified in 1999 and starting teaching a Year 5/6 class in the London Borough of Harrow. After I had taught for two years, I took a year out to travel Australia. Along the way, I did several jobs including working on a banana farm!
When I returned to England, I moved to Lincoln where I taught for 8 years. During that time, I married and had my first child. We relocated as a family to Essex where I worked in a newly opened primary school and saw it grow from 78 to 420 pupils.

I have been lucky enough to teach at Horncastle Primary School for 30 years, starting my career as a Newly Qualified Teacher and I am now teaching the children of some of my past pupils which is just lovely! Over my 30 years, I have taught across the school and now as Assistant Head I still enjoy getting into classes and chatting to the children which still makes me smile. I went to university in Wales and then returned back to Lincolnshire to start teaching. I am Welsh and if your child comes home singing ‘Happy Birthday’ in Welsh, it was probably me who taught them!
One of my passions, both in and out of school is singing and over the years I have led many choirs and we have been lucky enough to sing at Lincoln Cathedral, the Lincolnshire Show and most recently at the Fly Arena Sheffield through the Young Voices Project. Singing I believe is good for the heart and soul and most importantly confidence.
Outside of school, I am kept busy with family life. I am married and have one daughter. In my spare time I like to meet friends for coffee, this usually includes cake, and walk my labradoodle, who is also quite partial to cake!

At my previous school I trained to become a Level 3 Forest School Practitioner and successfully set up a Forest School provision. I have a huge love for the outdoors. Any opportunity to be outside, I will take it, even if it`s freezing cold and raining because there is no such thing as bad weather, only
bad clothing!
Out of school, I love to spend time with my family and two dogs, Molly and Marley. We like to explore forests and eat fish and chips by the coast. I enjoy gardening, especially looking after my house plants and baking with my daughter. I also have an unhealthy habit of eating Nutella out of
