Pupil Premium

What?

The Pupil Premium Grant is a Government initiative that targets extra money at vulnerable pupils ensuring support to enable them to reach their full potential.

Who?

The Pupil Premium Grant is allocated annually based on pupils who have registered for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years; children who are looked after or adopted from care and children with parents in the armed forces.

Why?

The Government does not dictate how schools should spend this money, but are clear that schools will need to employ the strategies that they know will support their pupils to increase their attainment, and ‘narrow the gap’. Schools are accountable for narrowing the gap between those in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant and their peers. Horncastle Primary School publishes an annual statement demonstrating the impact of this grant.

From September 2021, schools must demonstrate how their spending decisions are informed by research evidence and strategies and activities should include those that:

  • support the quality of teaching, such as staff professional development;
  • provide targeted academic support, such as tutoring; and
  • tackle non-academic barriers to success in school, such as attendance, behaviour and social and emotional support

To find out if your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding please contact the school office.
